12 BAR AND FLEECE, BRISTOL THREATENED WITH CLOSURE
Legendary live music venue Fleece (est. 1982) is attempting to get 20,000 signatures on a petition against flats being built 20m from the stage without adequate soundproofing. Meanwhile, one of the smallest live venues in London, 12 Bar is also under threat by a redevelopment plan to turn where Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones once wrote and performed into a new shopping and leisure destination.
These are not stand alone stories, every month another live venue shuts its doors in Britain to accommodate for ‘redevelopment’ plans. But where’s the development if the culture is left behind?
