Review: Joanna Gruesome – Anti-Parent Cowboy Killers

Because being in a band is cheaper than therapy… Joanna Gruesome are back to kick summer in the face with their latest twist of surf punk and grunge. Anti-Parent Cowboy Killers features the soft intensity of Alanna McArdle’s Jekyll and Hyde vocals ranging from dulcet tones to just plain shrieking. With pounding drums and layers of ear penetrating guitars, this track lights up the Weird Sister LP with exhilarating tension, old school sounds and unpretentious simplicity. Throwing themselves in the ring with The Muffs and Best Coast, Anti-Parent Cowboy Killers triumphs with a crashing chorus and riffs as strong as it’s title.
