This year you need to catch the feminist post-punk noir sounds of the all female band Savages. With comparisons to Siouxie and The Banshees and Joy Division, Savages started their quest to promote independent thought among young women back in London in 2011. Their debut album, ‘Silence Yourself’, saw the band at number 19 in the UK Albums Chart in May 2013 and was one of the years most highly commended debuts. The raucous sound of the album offered frenzied drums, aggressive guitars and shrieking vocals aside poetry and included titles like ‘Shut Up’ and ‘I Am Here’. Since they have released their second album ‘Adore Life’, again to high acclaim. Known for admonishing the audiences of their live gigs to avoid “constant distractions”, Coachella may be just the right place to begin Savages revolution against consumer capitalism’s attempt to create a dependent adolescent class.
