This is one Canadian singer songwriter who may as well be from Mars. Dressing like the love child of David Bowie and Vivienne Westwood, Grimes outlandish avant-garde costuming and instinctive, unique vocals are set to launch the crowd on Saturday. Born and raised in Vancouver, Grimes first became involved with the underground music scene when she joined McGill University and started recording her own experimental music. Her first three studio albums are; ‘Geidi Primes’, ‘Halfaxa’ and ‘Visions’ (2012). The singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion” received widespread critical acclaim with The New York Times hailing it “one of the most impressive albums of the year so far”. Not only was it nominated for the Polaris Prize but it also received the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year. Her fourth studio album Art Angels was released in 2015 and has since become her highest-charting project in the United States peaking at number 36. If you’re hoping to seek out the carnival spirit of this summer, a performance from Grimes will be a great place to start!
