MINK DEVILLE – SPANISH STROLL [1977]

Mink Deville was born out of New York’s CBGB nightclub scene, melding their soul and R&B sound with early punk rock influences. The band began as a showcase for the music of front man Willy DeVille and ran from 1974 to 1986. ‘Spanish Stroll’ was released as a single from their debut album ‘Cabretta’ and stands the test of times as a classic new wave punk prototype track with feel good grit. Willy’s coarse, confident vocal manifests itself in the listener’s ear and it also features a spoken word section by bassist Rubén Sigüenza during the break. Willy sadly died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 58, but his stirring lyricism lives on in this classic track.
